At Sterisets, we aim to further enhance sustainability. Inês, an intern in our quality department, contributes to this effort by working on the development of an environmental management system (EMS) according to ISO 14001:2015 as part of her master’s program.
She started with an environmental diagnosis, gathering data on waste management, energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. This research not only mapped the direct and indirect environmental impacts but also revealed opportunities to make our sustainability goals tangible. Additionally, she identified some carbon reduction measures and projects that can be incorporated into our carbon reduction plan.
Currently, she is focusing on collecting data for Scope 3 emissions reporting, such as waste processing and employee commuting. This requires in-depth research and collaboration with various departments. A challenge, but as Inês aptly states:
“What is not defined cannot be measured. What is not measured, cannot be improved.”
By measuring and understanding, we take targeted steps towards sustainability. Stay tuned for the next updates!
